ZOOM LESSON PREP

Let’s get ready.

Everything you need to prepare for our virtual Mahjong lesson. Three short steps - print, prep your tiles, set up your camera. That's it.

Thank you for trusting me with your learning.

I'm so excited for our time together - hands-on, fun, and full of "aha!" moments. Before we meet, you'll want to have these four things ready.

Tile set

American Mahjong, 152 tiles (8 jokers). Not Chinese (144 tiles).

4 racks with pushers

Usually included with sets - or sold separately.

A mat

Nice to have, not essential.

Current NMJL card

Available from me, or directly from the League.

Step 01

Print before we meet

Mahjong Quick Guide & The Charleston Guide

Helpful to print in color, ok to print in black & white.

Alternative NMJL card

Only if you don't have the current NMJL card yet. Print in color.

Step 02

Get your tiles ready

Open your tile set Most sets include a tile explanation card. If yours doesn't, no worries - we'll figure it out together.

Find the blank tiles Usually 2-8 of them. Set aside - we won't use these.

Find the Flowers/Seasons tiles Keep 8 with your main set. Set aside any extras.

Find the Jokers You'll need 8. Extras can be set aside.

Bag & store the extras. Put unused tiles in a ziplock bag and keep them somewhere safe - you may need them later.

Count your tiles You should have 152 total (flowers and jokers included). If the math isn't mathing, don't panic - we'll sort it out together.

Set up your table space Big enough for 4 racks with pushers and your tiles.

Step 03

For our video call

I'll need to see your table setup as you play - and you'll see mine. A few tips for the smoothest experience:

A phone or tablet works best - you can move it around as needed. If using a laptop, position it so I can see your tiles.

No app download needed - we'll use Zoom in your browser. Just click the button below at your scheduled time.

Can't wait to play with you! Questions before we start? Text me at 917-862-3004 or email gaia@masteryourmahjong.com.

Warm tiles & encouragement,
