A party where everyone learns something and nobody has to sing
Most party activities give your guests something to watch. Mahjong gives them something to do together, and by the end of the afternoon they're teasing each other about their discards like they've been playing for years.
If you're planning a bachelorette, a birthday, or a weekend away with friends in St. Pete, here's how a mahjong party with me works.
How it works
I come to you with everything: tiles, mats, and the materials your group needs. You provide the table space and the guests, and I teach the whole group using my Mahjong Made Simple method.
Nobody needs to know anything going in. Most groups have a mix of total beginners and one friend who "played once," and that works fine.
What your group gets out of it
Your guests learn the tiles and the Charleston, and then they play a real game together. That's the moment the party usually gets loud.
They also leave with a reason to see each other again. Sometimes a party group turns into a monthly game night.
Your place or mine
At your location. A 2.5-hour lesson at your home, vacation rental, or event space is $100 per person for up to nine guests, with a $400 minimum. For ten or more guests, it's $85 per person with an $850 minimum. There's a $35 travel fee.
At my home in Gulfport. A 2-hour lesson for up to eight people is $85 per person, with a $170 minimum. It's a good fit for a smaller group that would rather not host.
A few planning tips
Book early for weekends. Weekend dates go first.
Plan the meal around the lesson, not during it. Tiles and appetizers share a table badly.
Count your guests honestly. Mahjong is played four to a table, so let me know your number and I'll set up the tables to fit.
Not a party person?
If you'd rather learn on your own first and bring the game to your friends later, start with a Mahjong 101 class. Then you can be the friend who teaches it at the next party.
Book your date
Send me your date and your headcount through my website, and I'll tell you what's open. If the party is more than a month away, that's the perfect time to ask.
