Mahjong is here. Is your venue ready?

MAHJONG PROGRAM CONSULTING

Your members are already asking. I help clubs, libraries and venues build an American mahjong program their own staff can run, so you're not booking an outside teacher every week.

Two ways to do it

Hire a teacher, or build your own?

An outside teacher

You pay for every class and schedule around her calendar. When she moves on, the program goes with her.

An in-house program

You train your own staff once. Classes run on your schedule, and the program stays with you.

Staff training

Pick the program that fits your staff.

Each program trains one staff member. Training more than one? Add up to two more people to the same session.

Four or more people to train? They can join my group teacher class.

A two-page summary to print or share with your team.

Inside the session

Three hours. Your staff leaves having taught.

Hour 1

How a beginner class runs

We go through the lesson plan from start to finish: what to teach first, what to save for later and where beginners get stuck.

Hour 2

They teach, I coach

Your staff leads parts of the lesson while I play the student. I give feedback in the moment, so they leave having actually taught.

Hour 3

The hard parts

What to say when a student feels lost, when one person takes over the table, or when a question comes up they can't answer. We finish with setup: sets, cards, class size and table layout.

In Tampa Bay

I come to your venue, with a $35 travel fee per session. Or your staff comes to my place in St. Pete, and there's no travel fee.

Outside Tampa Bay

All sessions run on Zoom, with no travel fee. You'll need a mahjong set at your location. The 30-minute follow-up call is always by phone or Zoom.

How it works

From first call to first class.

01

A quick call

We talk about your space, your members and who on your staff will teach.

02

Train your staff

One-on-one, in person in Tampa Bay or on Zoom from anywhere.

03

Your first class

Your teacher runs a real beginner class with the lesson plan.

04

Follow-up call

Thirty minutes after that first class, to sort out whatever came up.

Gaia Banovich, American mahjong program consultant

Your program consultant

Hi, I'm Gaia. I build programs.

I've taught American mahjong to more than 3,000 people since 2023 and built programs with more than a dozen partner venues, from clubs to restaurants to boutiques. I know what makes members come back every week, and what makes a program quietly fade.

My students have left 90+ five-star Google reviews. That's the standard your staff will be trained to.

Before mahjong, I spent my career in business development and marketing at Abercrombie & Kent and Christie's in New York. So I think about your program the way you do: members, schedule and budget.

Your staff is welcome to say they were "Trained by Master Your Mahjong."

What stays with me

My class names, method names and brand materials stay with me. That includes "Mahjong Made Simple," "Mahjong Made Simpler," "Mahjong Made Teachable" and any other Master Your Mahjong name, logo or material.

Questions from venues.

Why not just hire a mahjong teacher?

You can, and I teach at venues too. But an outside teacher is a cost every single class, and the program leaves when she does. Training your own staff is a one-time cost, and the program stays with you.

Our staff has never played. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Learn, Then Teach starts with a learn-to-play lesson and practice games before any teacher training.

How many staff can train?

Up to three people can share one private session, at $295 for each extra person on Teach the Teacher and $395 on Learn, Then Teach. Four or more people can join my group teacher class.

What do we need to provide?

The current National Mah Jongg League card for each trainee. For Zoom sessions, a mahjong set at your location. The Mahjong Made Teachable guide is included in every program.

Do you come to us?

In Tampa Bay, yes, with a $35 travel fee per session, or your staff can train at my place in St. Pete with no fee. Outside Tampa Bay, training runs on Zoom.

Can we use your name?

Your staff is welcome to say they were "Trained by Master Your Mahjong." My class names, method names and materials stay with me, including "Mahjong Made Simple," "Mahjong Made Simpler" and "Mahjong Made Teachable." Each guide license covers one instructor.
